§ 4-6. Cruelty to animals.

  • (a)

    It is unlawful for any owner, possessor or person having the charge or custody of any animal to:

    (1)

    Cruelly drive or work the animal when unfit for labor;

    (2)

    Cruelly abandon the animal;

    (3)

    Carry the animal or cause the animal to be carried in or upon any vehicle or otherwise in an unnecessarily cruel or inhumane manner; or

    (4)

    Knowingly or willfully authorize or permit the animal to be subjected to unnecessary torture, suffering or cruelty of any kind.

    (b)

    Any person violating this section, upon conviction, shall, for every such offense, be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable pursuant to S.C. Code 1976, § 47-1-40.
