§ 2-49. Nonpartisan elections; filings; certification of nominees.

All regular and special elections for the office of mayor or council member of the
city shall be nonpartisan general elections pursuant to S.C. Code, § 5-15-60. A statement
of candidacy stating their intention to run for the office of mayor and council, designating
the office sought, shall be filed with the city clerk or treasurer in accordance with
the S.C. Code of Laws Title 5-15-70. Such written statement, along with a filing fee
equal to one hundred dollars ($100.00) for the office of mayor and fifty dollars ($50.00)
for the office of council member, shall be filed with the city clerk and treasurer
not later than 12:00 noon on August 1 or, if August 1 falls on Saturday or Sunday,
not later than 12:00 noon on the following Monday. Each candidate must affirm, in
writing, that he meets, or will meet by the time of the general election, the qualifications
for the office sought. Any candidate who does not, or will not by the time of the
general election, meet the qualifications for the office sought shall not have his
name placed on the ballot. The municipality shall certify the filing results to the
registration and elections commission of Pickens County within twenty-four (24) hours
of the closing of the filing.
